MIVA Asia Barber Competition Guideline

(G4L) Barber - Beard Grooming and Styling

    1. Competition Rules

(1) Competition Content

    1. Beard Grooming: The groomed area must feature clear lines, shapes, or textures that reflect the contestant’s creativity and technique. The lines must be smooth, and the edges must be clean.
    2. Overall Styling: The beard styling must complement the model’s hairstyle, face shape, and overall style. The surrounding facial hair must be neat, with a natural transition to the groomed area.
    3. Creative Expression: The design must be unique and original, avoiding overly simple or templated styles.

(2) Competition Time

    • The competition duration is 30 minutes. All actions must be completed within the time limit.

(3) Contestant Grooming Requirements

    1. Dress Code: Contestants must wear the uniform provided by the organizer, paired with appropriate pants and shoes to reflect a professional image.
    2. Hair Requirements: Hair should be neatly groomed, clean, and well-kept. If the hair is long, it may be tied back to ensure cleanliness and a professional appearance.
    3. Overall Appearance: Contestants must maintain a tidy and clean appearance, without excessive accessories or heavy makeup, to ensure a professional look.

(4) Model Preparation Requirements

    1. Pre-Competition Grooming: The model’s facial hair should be trimmed before the competition to ensure the surrounding hair length is even.
    • Standard Hair Length for Groomed and Surrounding Areas: The groomed area must be at least 2 cm, and the surrounding area must be at least 3 cm, to allow for proper trimming and design.
    • If the model’s facial hair does not meet these requirements, contestants must trim the hair during the competition, which may impact the time available for the beard design.

(5) Use of Color

    • The model’s facial hair may be dyed in natural colors (e.g., black, brown, chestnut, blonde) to match the design theme.
    • The dyeing should be even and natural. The use of dyeing products to cover up technical flaws or model’s hair quality issues is prohibited.

(6) Tools and Products

    1. Tools: Scissors, small comb, electric shaver, razor, blow dryer, cleaning brush, etc. Fine detailing tools or small clippers may also be used.
    2. Products: Styling spray, conditioner, beard-specific lubricants, color-enhancing products, including sprays, powders, or hair dye.
    3. Extension Cords: Contestants must bring their own extension cords; the organizer will only provide one electrical outlet per participant.

(7) Prohibited Actions

    1. The use of pre-made templates to complete the beard design is prohibited.
    2. No design work may be done on the groomed area before the competition begins.

2. Model Requirements

(1) Model Conditions

Participants must bring their own male model, and the model’s facial hair must be healthy with no noticeable skin damage.

    • The side beard length must be at least 3 cm, and the top beard length must be at least 5 cm to allow flexibility in trimming and grooming.

(2) Model Clothing

    1. The model’s overall appearance (beard color, clothing, accessories) can be chosen based on the beard design theme.
    2. The model may wear non-obstructive earrings, necklaces, or other accessories that do not cover the beard design area, to complement the design.

3. Safety and Hygiene

(1) Tools and Products

    1. All tools must be disinfected before and after the competition to ensure no risk of cross-contamination.
    2. Lubricants or care products used during the grooming process must be skin-safe and certified.

(2) Model Protection

    1. Clean the model’s facial hair before the competition. If necessary, soothing sprays may be used to reduce skin irritation from the grooming tools.
    2. Ensure that the grooming process does not cause any damage to the model’s skin.

(3) Work Area Cleanliness

    1. Contestants must ensure that their workstations (tables and chairs) are tidy, with no tools, products, or waste left behind.
    2. Hair dropped during the competition will be cleaned by designated staff, and contestants are not required to handle this.
    3. After the competition, contestants should promptly clean up their tools and products and restore the workstation to a tidy condition.

4. Competition Process

(1) Pre-Competition Preparation

    1. Contestant and Model Check-in:
    • Contestants must arrive at the designated area with their model at least 15 minutes before the competition starts for check-in.

(2) Competition Segment

    1. Competition Start: Contestants have 30 minutes to complete all actions.
    2. Competition End: Contestants must stop immediately when time is up. Any unfinished work will not be counted in the scoring.
